:roll: Hi guys
could you please help with this problem...new radio with two power lines, one I presume is constant hot for the clock, the other? some time ago I read somebody had the same problem, and of course I can't find it, I believe he took a direct line off the fuse block that was switched on and of thru the ign...can you tell me which fuse this is plse...I tried Artigues drawings but can not make head nor tail, just a dummy I guess. thanx in advance

I have disconnected the door chime and use it for the stereo power source. It works great. When keys are in the ignition stereo has power. If you don't want to use it , take a multi- meter and check which fuse is hot with key on. The original power source should still be under there somewhere and you can find it also with your meter. I had a few hot wires under my dash that I had to secure. Good luck.

one power wire is for the clock and programming, the other is for the radio itself. remember, if you go long periods of time without driving the car, this will drain the battery. would require a battery tender to solve that issue. Would need to know the model of car to know your specific fuse usage. Looking at Brad's 80-82 FI schematic, p.6 shows the battery connecting directly to fuses 9 (8a) and 10 (16a). these should be your 2 far right fuses. I think these 2 are common throughout the years. Make sure you put an inline fuse for your radio as both these fuses are probably too big to protect the radio.

WOW you guys are fast and great, my car is a 80 carbed so would the fuse be the same? also like the idea of using the door chime as mine does not work anyway...what do you think would be the easier for this dummy?? :roll:

the door chime relay is on the tray underneath the glove box. very easy and convenient. I would go there

I think your car came pre-wired for a radio and power ant switch. The connector's are usually tucked behind the the radio cut down low. The 6 pin connector with red/black wires in it is for the stock power ant switch. The red and black wire is hot all the time. The 8 pin connector has the ground, power and speaker wires. Brown is switched power, white/black is ground the gray, gray/black, violet,violet/black are the speaker wire that go to the forward side kick panels. The power wires are already fused in the fuse panel. If your radio needs a dash dimmer wire you an splice in to the light wire for the cigar lighter.

:lol: What a great site, and thankyou to ALL the TECHS What I did was find the hot lead on the ign swt[lite blue] and tied into it Thanx to my neighbors voltage lite and expertise, that took care of the switched pwer, then for the clock I tied into the red wire for the lighter...ooops not constant hot, so now back in and try to find the existing radio plug and use the hot lead from there....thanx again guys really helps
ps....with all the digging around and checking the inlie fuses etc, now the courtesy lamp and the hazard lite now work....bonus ron

I believe the constant hot wire is the red/black wire on the light that lights when you open the car door. The original radio connector does not have a constant hot wire. It is the unused 6 pin power antenna connector that has a red/black wire.

My 6 pin connector (apparently for power antenna) will go unused, since I'm missing the antenna and have no plans to wire a radio back in. Is it safe just to leave it uncapped? All 6 pins and wires are inside the 6-pin plastic connector.
