A Brit, in an Italian, in America...

Post by KiwiChris »

Well, I went and made a compulsive spare of the moment decision and bought myself a 1982 Fiat Spider.. that was a month ago and I haven't regretted it once!

Except for a few minor problems (i.e issues with lighting, radio doesn't work, have to hold it in third gear, dull paint job...) it'sin perfect condition! ...least that is what i'm telling myself...

I'm hoping to get it into shape as I think it is a beautiful machine (will eventually post pictures) and 'll probably be looking for alot of advice in accomplishing that.. hence joining FiatSpider.com.

Best place to be holding it in 3rd gear.

Sounds like a worn selector fork..

Has she been converted to right hand drive or is it still original lhd?

No, I have no need to convert to right hand drive...

I'm hoping to remove the transmission in the next few weeks to diagnose the gear issue... I thought it may have been that I just needed a new synchro.

I would change all syncros, most likely someone has put the wrong fluid in the tranny at one time.

I don't live in Italy... Upper Michigan.

Driving a few laps on the Lingotto would be a good experience! follow that with a weekend in Germany on the Nurburgring...
