Wipers not working !

Post by adrians »

Hi,

The Spider just come back from the mechanics, and suddenly the wipers don't work, I checked the fuse (B) all ok, try to see if there is voltage getting to the motor via the 6 wires, yes there is however more than one wire show a common earth ????

With the wiper switched on the wiper relay beings to click after a while, I don't remember it doing this before.

Anyone with any ideas or similar problems ?

RELAY - TEL 12C/1 12V

Adrian, misery loves company huh? I haven't had the same problem with my Spider, but I've had something similar in other cars. It sounds like the wiper motor is getting power. Did you try to wiggle the wiper arms? Sometimes they will bind up, and that may break them loose.

not necessarily an electrical issue. pull the blades/arms away from the windshield and try the juice again. do they work now?

the delay mechanism sometimes creates a clicking noise as it arbitrarily cycles on and off. Yeah, 6 wires...who knew that Luigi was an electrical genius, 'eh?

To All,

As per the post on Turbo124,

It wasn't an electrical problem....... It was the frozen wiper arms ! !

Whew! identifying the source of the trouble is the first step in solving the issues.

hopefully, since they worked last season, or earlier this season (depending on your location) the mechanical systems can be un-frozen with a little old-fashioned hard work.

Or, as in my case, you remove the arms and cowling then, strip, clean and lube the entire assy (again!). Only to find that the fuse was loose! And you'd think I would learn form my mistakes? Nope I did the same damn thing with my horn on Sunday...

I find a Canadian quarter is just the right size to (temporarily) replace a fuse...

I hope that Canadian quarter will melt after about 30amps goes through it or you may be adding some posts under the one wire at a time thread
