Pope, here's the link to the jumper wire picture, the two wires that are jumpered are pulled to the front.

I've checked every wire under there, even the ones not related to this switch. Everything is factory except the wires that went to the radio, they are now cut and spliced to the loom for the new radio I got.
Checking it with a known good one is a good idea Mike, but don't know how I'd do that. The console has to be taken out to get to it, and I'm the only one around here with an 80's car.

Re: Emer. flasher
I've been looking up under the dash at all the wiring and it looks untouched. But I looked at the "handbrake on" switch, which is gone and the wire to it was in place but attached to nothing, just a spring sitting on top of it. The wire is purple with a white stripe.
Sorry for taking up so much of your time with this issue.

Hey Ron,
I see the hand brake switch where the violet/white wire goes to it. It says that its grounded right at the switch. What I am talking about is the little black switch that is depressed when you lower the handbrake and it comes in contact with the switch.
The violet/white wire travels to a delay switch, then that violet/white wire piggy backs off of it and goes to the brake indicator light on the dash next to the fasten seat belt light and to the brake fluid level switch in the engine compartment.
I dont know if the hand brake switch is necessary, I would just make sure that it is contained so that it cant accidently touch the body and short out, or find a replacement and fix it.

Re: Emer. flasher
Pope, does that mean that when the hand brake lever is down it depresses the switch and completes a ground circuit? The switch on my car was missing when I got it, just the spring poking up through hole where the top of the switch broke off.
Re: Emer. flasher
I'll look on mine, but I think it is just the opposite. When you push the switch down with the handbrake, it opens up the circuit and therefore adds no ground. When you take the brake off, the spring in the switch forces contact with the ground completing the circuit.

Re: Emer. flasher
Well, crap. Never mind this issue. While working on it the turn signal lever snagged something inside the mechanism when I was putting it into position for left turn. Now I don't have turn signals. I took off the steering wheel but I don't see a way to get into the switch. So for now I'm going to have to figure a way to bypass the lever to get turn signals. Rocker switch I guess.

Re: Emer. flasher
!!!!!! I have turn signals! Put the new emer. flasher switch back in, pushed in on the button, and my turn signals work. It still won't work the 4 way flashers, but I can live with that. What a frustrating weekend. But all's well that ends well. Thanks Pope, Mike, Mark, Alvon, Denise, Adrian....who am I forgetting, Thanks everyone.
