Fiat in Seattle

Post by 79fiatster »

Hello everyone.

My Dad picked up a 79 Fiat Spider a few weeks back (not running). Took about 10 minutes to get it fired up after sitting in someones garage for the last year. It has become out father son project. :)

Best,
Keith

Hi Keith,

What part of Seattle are you in? I'm just a little way south in Federal Way. Let me know if you want to get together.

I am way up north of Everett. Currently we have the front end on jack stands while we replace bushings. Most of the bushings were pressed all the way to the control arms. Add rust to that and we have a huge pain on our hands.

Every piece of rubber on the front of the car was in bad shape. Slop in the control arms and steering linkage. New parts will be here Friday from Auto Ricambi :D

Good news is the engine issues we started with have been sorted out. My dad picked up the car not running. We started checking fluids and found nearly 10qts of oil in the block. Got it started and decided to do a carb rebuild and a minor tune up (rotor, cap, plugs, wires, fuel filter). Then we rerouted the vacuum lines (nothing was routed to the right location) and did the timing. Runs like a champ now.

well done, I love working on cars with my dad.
If not done, you may want to do the timing belt being a non runner for so long, if that breaks it is usually a costly repair
Cheers David
