Hey There

I am the proud owner of a 1981 fiat spider 2000. It has just around 90,000 miles on it with a rebuilt enging 15,000 miles ago. Top is good for what it's worth but could use some lovin. Whoever had this car before me jerry-rigged the wiring so bad that the windshield wipers would turn on for a sec when you turned the car on. And he made it a push button start. Basically I saved this classic from an idiot. Some rust around the rear wheel wells but I have the parts to replace them. It needs a lot of work but I know with fiatspider.com I can have the resources to help make my spider awesome. This what I've done so far: changed the fuel filter, new spark plugs, new ignition switch, new side mirror. I am having trouble getting through emissions at DMV though, can't get the Carbonmonoxide down for some reason. Luckily I have a mechanic that used to own a fiat dealership and is helping me out with a tune up.

Sincerly,
Toomas

Eesti-

I'm going to spend the fall deep into a 79/80 resto project. Any interest in sharing time/space/tools/knowledge? Currently in kennet square PA but moving to Wilmington or newark within the next couple of weeks. The 79 is my daily driver but the 80 doesn't have rust.

Cheers
Tom

It's cool to know that there is another spider near by. If you are moving to Wilmington/Newark and need work done to your car there is a Sunoco in Hockessin that you can go to that is pretty good with spiders. The owner used to own a fiat dealership way back when and has done work on my spider.

Sorry, Jim, but I am at a complete and utter loss to figure out why you would suggest, based on Eestispider's post, that changing spark plugs and fuel filter makes no sense. He clearly changed the ignition because the "idiot" who owned the car before him had replaced it with a push button starter.

Or possibly he was referring to the whole push button start thing...
