1982 124 spyder automatic

Post by Herb »

Greetings!
I recently saved a 82 124 spyder 2000 from an untimely demise!..This car, although only 1 basic owner lived most of its life in a garage in Newport, RI..With 39K miles on it, mechanically its in pretty good shape...I threw a battery and fresh fuel in it and it started right up..Idles so smooth i could put a glass of water on the valve cover!
Sections of the body, however are another story..It needs attention...Living near the ocean didn't help..

For some unknown reason, the previous owner removed the rear calipers and set them aside and they are all rusted...As well are the rotors..It appears whoever worked on this before only had vice grips and a broken screwdriver!

Can u folks help me with parts suppliers?..I'm on the south shore of Boston...I've googled a bit, but I thought I would try this site first and speak with the people who know!
This is not my first car to restore..done a 64 corvette, 911, and a mustang or two..had a 75 Spyder while I was in tech school and remember I had a blast with it...
Currently also doing a MGA, and getting fed up with aftermarket parts that don't fit.

Looking forward to driving my new 4 wheel toy..

Oh, yes..Also ride bevel drive ducati's...Love Italian, although my wife is Irish! :?

Welcome aboard! Auto Ricambi is the best, imho. But they all are good, don't want to cast aspersions anywhere.

Unlike the MG and other Brit cars there are many vendors who specialize in providing almost all the parts you will need at very reasonable (by comparison) prices. My first restoration project was a 1959 MGA and I got very familiar with Moss Motors. My experience with Fiat 124 parts vendors is far better.

Wow! Only 37K miles. I can't imagine!
I have to agree, Ricambi are my go-to guys but I also know Vick Autosport guys are very knowledgable and IAP puts out a great catalog. There are others. In fact, it's been quite a while since I heard any real complaints about any of the Fiat vendors recommended on here.
BTW we LOVE pics, especially the "before" shots as they give the rest of us hope for ours!

Hello and welcome. Lots of help here for anything you may need. I cast a second vote for Autoricambi. Our site moderator also sells many parts with no worries on fit. Fiat parts are inexpensive and easy to come by. Good luck and enjoy. :D

Can't get much closer than Walpole! We usually do the Millis Cruise Night on Saturdays, except this Sat we have our 40th HS Reunion so we won't do the cruise. There is the big one on alternate Thursdays in Foxboro, and another good one at the base of Blue Hills (Episcopal Church) on Fridays!

Thanx for all the info..
I've spent the past few weeks trying to familiarize myself with my car..
I'm looking at removing the cat, and replacing that intermediate pipe... Seems like a good way to go..
My E brake cable runs under the intermediate pipe and is all melted.
Should this cable be under or over the intermediate pipe?
I ordered brakes, and rotors...Plan on doing that this week, so I can take her out for a ride...
Does anyone know of a "Fiat junk yard?'
I have a red interior and need a drivers seat bottom...Someone took a knife to the upholsty !

Stay tuned!

Thanx

Yes, picked this up in Newport..came from second owner who only put 800 miles on it.....Paid 1200 for it with 39K on ..A few aches and pains...needs complete paint, but runs good...The clock even works!
someone knifed the seat
Not too sure I like the automatic....
Was wondering how much work it would be to convert to a 5 speed....keep the auto rearend?
The floors and frame are mint...Still has that sheetmetal guard under the gass fill pipe....
