Another new guy from Pa.

Post by 3wheelernut »

Hi everyone! My name is Chas McHenry and I live in Central Bucks County. I just got my 72/74 Spider tonight. I know nothing about it other than it has some 72 and some 74 parts ( I think it was a motor swap). It was sitting for 3 years so I checked the oil, checked the tires, put it in 5th and rolled it down the driveway to lube the cylinders put a battery in it and some fresh fuel, then ran it around the cart paths in the field for an hour!

What a pleasure looking out over that bubbled hood, through 3 years of yuck on the windshield, old car smell is something you cannot replicate, and even though I never got out of second gear I can tell Ill have some fun with this little runner.

I havent torn down anything larger than an old Three Wheeler in 15 years, so Im a little intimidated, but want to take my tme and go over this thing completely. It had a nice restoration a couple of years before it was parked and has almost no rust, that much I know. It runs nice, it seems to sithigh on the drivers side rear corner, say 7 inches between the 1/4 and the tire and only 4 on the passenger side. It does need a starter and it has no brake pedal, but I think I can fix most of that while they are running around our covered bridges this weekend. My wife bought herself a new Camaro Convertible this spring, so not to be overshadowed when this came up I could not say no. I will try to put up a pic or two as soon as light hits tomorrow and I can spend some time working to figure out the site.

Sorry for the length but Im a tad excited!!

Welcome,
Surely you can join the covered bridge gang tomorrow. Ask someone if you can ride along in their car or follow in your wife's Camaro. then you can get face time with some other FIAT nuts. Wish I were closer.

You'll have a lot of fun re-commissioning your Spider. The pre-emissions cars are very easy to work on, with lots of room under the hood.

Hi 3wheeler,
Check out our site at NJFIATS.ORG. We are having a covered bridge run this sunday. Why not come over and meet us at 09:00 at Washington Crossing State Park. Check out the everyones spiders and ask lots of questions. We are a very fun loving group. You will have a good time , meet some Fiat folks and pick up lots of valuable info. No ned to bring your spider untill it's road ready. Hope to see you there, George
