would you say that putting duct tape all around the harness s compulsory or just advised ?
I had to remove most of the tape when checking my wiring and I do not know what is the best to do.
should I re-roll tape all over the main harness of single nylon laces would do the same ?
any advise appreciated.
duct tape or simple laces ?

I always do it just to keep everything organized and easy to route around. Certainly doesn't hurt!

Re: duct tape or simple laces ?
I would suggest using electrical tape instead of duct tape. It's much easier to work with.

Pete, I like that wood under your shifter. Do you have an extra?

forget that nonsense. sits in the hot sun for one season and then you better never have to remove the crap.
Get those mini zip ties and use liberally. you'll thank me later. Looks just as clean, but so much easier to remove.

Re: duct tape or simple laces ?
I wouldn't suggest duct tape. Use split wire wrap or something similar

@Dennis: I have sold off all the excess Madrone Burl veneer remaining from my dash project, but it is available by lot at http://www.veneersupplies.com A Great source for veneer woods!
Haven't considered the heat problem, it is not an issue up here in Mass, but I guess in a hot climate the adhesive on the electrical tape could get pretty gooey. The PO on my cah had e-taped a lot of bundles decades ago, and it came off with no problem. Definitely do NOT use duct tape. Will end up with a solid mess after some time.

Seriously, spend a couple dollars at a computer store or someplace you can get different diameter wiring loom. Once your wires are sorted just wrap the loom around the bundle and then use electrical tape and zip ties to tighten the loom around the wires. The wires are now enclosed/protected and you can get back at them in the future without spending an hour pulling old sticky electrical tape off of wires on your beloved car.
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!

Re: duct tape or simple laces ?
You know, it just occurred to me that all of the cables behind my entertainment center are contained using double sided velcro that comes in a roll. Until now I never thought about using that stuff. it's about 3/4" wide and you can cut off a few inches at a time and wrap it right around the cables. since it's double sided, using a little extra just increases the hold as it wraps around onto itself. The hard part, now, is remembering where I found that stuff. Thank goodness for the internet.
