Well from my previous post on Funny Things Electrical, I had a bad windshield washer pump and thought I would post my findings here for those wanting to possibly save a few bucks in the future.
The issue was the pump would not turn with voltage applied.....
Here is why
The external conditions of the motor are that of a rust encrusted find from the bottom of the ocean.
After removing the two rivets holding the motor to the impellor housing and removing the three tiny screws seen here
You can see that the inside of the motor housing and electricals were worse than the outside.
So we take some 400 grit sandpaper and attack the inside of the magnet and the outside of the windings to remove the rust.
Apply a little grease down in that tiny hole at thebottom of the housing
And check the tiny brushes (sorry for the poor photo)
and reassemble - (mind the plastic motor seperator between the impellor and motor has a key that fits the metal housing)
And test... Voila she runs nicely. Now all that is left to do is reinstall the tiny screws and find some replacement screws for the rivets to the impellor housing.

Wow - you are one dedicated tinkerer. Auto Ricambi ( for example) sells that pump for about 25 bucks....

Tinkerer is the right word, although my better half says I'm a true Scot. Based on what I make per hour at my regular job not worth the time from a cost benefit analysis in today's throw away society. I was just curious about what makes them tick/fail and It only took about ten minutes total. The simplicity of the design if you will, given its function is it's flaw. It has a singular shaft for the motor and impeller which runs through the rubber seal and no drain holes for eventual seepage into the motor casing. In theory it should wick out on the back side of the rubber seal and drip from the plastic drain holes, but the shaft is in essence a wick into the motor housing. I guess for those that are inclined its an easy fix
