Hello from sunny Perth, Western Australia

Post by PerthFan »

Hi

New to the forum - have owned a couple of Fiats in the (distant) past but hoping to get a Spider one of these days. In the meantime, I thought I would join up to learn all I can about these beautiful cars.

Happy New Year to you all!

Hello and Happy New Year. What Fiats have you owned in the past and how good (or bad) was your experience with them? I have only recently taken posession of my first Spider. I have previously had 2 x 124 Coupes and an X1/9. All positive experiences that make me wonder why the Fix It Again Tony reputation ever got started.

The Fiats I've had in the past were a 1967 500 / Bambina which I learnt to drive on; and in my early 20s an X1/9 which was from memory about 5 years old at the time. Loved them both. The X1/9 sticks in my mind for the way it went round corners; and the 500 for its overall character and the lack of synchro which meant I quickly learnt a whole lot about how to use a gearbox.

That's exactly the reason I am trying to hang on to my X1/9. Part of the deal with my wife when buying the Spider was to sell the X1/9.

I've still got it. Shhhhhh.

Hi PerthFan and welcome! There are a few Spiders lurking around out west, if you get onto Sam or Giles from the Fiat/Lancia Club of WA they may be able to point you in the right direction.

Good luck and I hope you find a Spider that suits what you're looking for.

I spent a couple of weeks in Perth visiting family last Spring and enjoyed every day. I was able to meet Giles and see his Fiat collection. As Fi8 points out, Giles may be able to point you in the right direction to find a good Spider.
