Good thing I didn't by-pass that dimmer. I drove my car last night and those bright dash lights had me reachin' for my sunglasses

Re: Headlight Relays & Dim Dashlights
Not sure if this helps. My 1981 owners manual shows the dash bulb to be a #158, 3 watt, 2cp.
With respect to blowing the fuse.
The total current for all the dash lights being full bright at full voltage is a little over 2 amps. The higher wattage bulbs bring it closer to 4 amps for the same condition.
I would not expect the fuse panel fuse which is 8 amps to blow from the extra wattage bulbs.
There is an internal fuse in the panel dimmer that is of unstated value. I have seen a few of these blown. They are just a piece of small wire maybe 26 gauge about 1/2 inch long. If something were to fail form the brighter bulbs it might be that fuse.
Thanks for posting the information on higher wattage bulbs

I concur with IAP after watching their latest lower console replacement which is suppose to be a helpful video. I made my comments and moved onvandor wrote:IAP has a great bunch of guys, but they don't have a lot of practical experience. I thought I'd read differently somewhere so I went looking. Found it.
