Ignition switch plunger won't disengage
Ignition switch plunger won't disengage
Trying to replace my ignition switch for the second time in the past six months but the replacement (non OEM) one that I previously put in is really messed up. Doesn't spring back to run position when moved to start. Worst of all, it doesn't want to release the plunger when put in the zero or arrow position so haven't been able to remove. Is there any want else to approach this? Would love to replace it with the OEM switch I've got sitting here.

Have you tried pushing on the tab while turning the key, to see if it releases the tab at any position? Maybe it's not right at the arrow, but just a hair one way or another.

Thanks, was thinking around the same lines. Already spent more than a half hour simultaneously pushing in tab, pulling on switch and varying position of key to no avail.vandor wrote:Have you tried pushing on the tab while turning the key, to see if it releases the tab at any position? If I can't get it, is my only solution to remove steering column and replace with another or can the switch currently in there be smashed, cut out or hammered out if I have no concern for the future usability of this switch?

It can. When I did that I dilled out the center with larger and larger bits until there was just a big hole and eventually I was able to find a way to unlock the tab.
