Hi

My name is Mauro and I'm living in Switzerland. I loved the Spider since a was a teenager... and finally I bought last Year a 1985 Spider Europa. It was always clear to me to buy the MY 1985, because I'm absolutely fascinated by the fact that this MY was upgraded and only after a few month the production stopped. I'm wondering what the discussions were between PIninfarina and Fiat..

Wishing you all a good day, greetings from the snowy Switzerland
Mauro

Welcome fmc,
Pininfarina dropped the 124 Spider when they got the contract for the Cadillac Allante. Unfortunately for them, it only lasted seven years.

Hi

Yes, I read this too, but... Fiat had plans to switch everything from rear wheel drive to front wheel drive, and they started with the Fiat Croma in 1985, means from there on, no more rear wheel drive plattform available. Usually, it takes Years to develop a new car like a Fiat Croma, means Pininfarina should have known, but they still invested money in an upgrade. You don't invest money in something that will stopp in a Year.

Did Pininfarina really knew what would happen, or did they had a special agreement to produce the spider even longer than 1985? And, finally, was it really the Allante to kill the Spider or killed Fiat the Spider? :-)

Have a nice day
Mauro

Hmm. Good point. Fiat gave up the spider in 1982. Why?
