Trouble getting caliper banjo bolt to seal

Post by bobbo52 »

Hello All, i'm having problems getting the banjo bolt to seal. When I try to pump the brakes it leaks and is not working. Any ideas on how I can fix this problem?

If you are not going to replace the copper o rings you should at least anneal them by heating them to red hot and let cool. This will soften them and allow them to seal. After the seals are used they get work hardened and won't seal.

I have it put back together in the proper order. It acts like the washers are not sealing?

look closely at the surface on the caliper where the copper washer sits. It must be flat and not scored or the washer won't seal

As mark says check to make sure the caliper surface is clean and flat. also the under side of the bolt. In lieu of new washers I usually put a piece of sandpaper like 1000 use for wet sanding on a flat surface and use my fingers to swirl the washer around till I get new copper to shine thru again. Do both sides, reassemble and you should be good. Also make sure the metal end of the hose is not hitting the caliper before bolt gets tighten down then install retainer.
