Hello,
I have a 1983 2000 FI. It used to start (cold) just by turning the ignition, but know it needs gas and keep it accelerated just to warm the engine, Idle's fine after warm.
Any suggestions,
Thank you.
Cold start.
Re: Cold start.
Check the Thermo Time Switch and Cold Start Valve. My TTS was unhooked and CSV was clogged up. Cold Start Valves were over $100 everywhere I looked...
The Thermo Time Switch is hard to find. It's centered in the block below the intake manifold. After hooking up and cleaning mine it starts with one click every time.

You might also want to check the Aux Air Valve. It can cause the symptoms you are experiencing.

Re: Cold start.
that thing that is in between the fuel injection temp sensor and the guage movement temp sensor
Also check you connection to the FI coolant sensor is sound and also check that the TPS is set correctly. When the car is off, listen carefully for a click just as you press the accelerator

Re: Cold start.
I remove the AAV and it was completely close, I clean it with car cleaner and force it open with a screw driver, And know it won't close, I tested with boiling water. Any suggestions.

Re: Cold start.
If you have to force it open you may have buggered it, is car cleaner the same as carbie cleaner?henry wrote:I remove the AAV and it was completely close, I clean it with car cleaner and force it open with a screw driver, And know it won't close, I tested with boiling water. Any suggestions.
There is a small nut that adjust the gap, try that as well.

When mine went south I bought a rebuilt one from Mark Allison. No issues since. I'm not sure he still sells them.

Found a new one, problem solve
Re: Cold start.
Good result. Now I always try to read up on what's going on inside a device like that before attacking it. Famous last words: "How hard can it be?...."
