Hi Guys/Gals....The engine casting # is 132a1 0406. The # below it is 0737 188. Note; There is a closed off distributor port obove the oil filter mount. After looking at my ID plates, do I have the original engine?? Thanks, Patrick

may not be the original engine but it does look like a 2L. The dizzy port by the oil filter is a left over from the original 1438 motors. All the later models retained that port. I just converted to a solid state ignition on my FI and used that location.
valve lash 1800 engine ???????
Hi, folks. I decided to check a few thing on my engine before went any further on my resoration. I pulled the cam covers and the radiator. 1st thing I looked at was the cams. They appear fine. I checked my tappet to cam clearance on the intake side and had .017 across the board. Nice! Exhaust had 17, 19, 16 and 18 @ cylinders 1, 2, 3, and # 4, respectively. Is it normal for the (exhaust) tappet to cam lobe clearance (which should be .019) to decrease over time? Is it possible that someone put thick shims in at one point. Are the numbers I have right now OK? I'm not the original owner and I recently puchaced the car. I'ts a 1978 with the original engine. Thanks, Patrick

Your exhaust gap is a little tight. should be .019-.020. If you can pull your shims and mic them, i have a small stash of shim and can see if i have any you need. When i redid my motor, i bought shims from Vics. they are very cheap. Also, if you go to Mirafiori website, they have a shim kit that you can "borrow". Not sure who is the guy in charge of that. Maybe Chris Saul.
