Windshield wiper

Post by blakevan »

I have a 1982 and the wipers worked when I bough it but not any more. I have several repair manuals but can't find a section on the wipers. Do I get to them via the front under the hood or through the dash?

You need to open the hood and remove the cowl. It is held by 6 screws. It's best to have a helper, as it's easy to scratch the body when removing it.
Before you do that, tho, be sure it's not a corroded fuse.

they are bolted to the underside of the windshield cowling. careful when you pull the cowling out, it is easy to scratch the fenders and the wiring to the wiper motor is short. Check fuses before you do anything. Also lift your wipers off the glass and see if the work.

Thanks! I checked the fuse so looks like I'm going to need a screw driver.

I taped some towels to the fenders to keep the cowl from scratching. It is VERY easy to scratch the fenders, so be really careful. Good idea to make sure the vent door is free and cable and hinge lubed up while in there, and take care of any rust, and, and, and, project creep!

When under the cowl, make sure the 2 drain holes on either side are clear; the rain that comes through the cowl grate has to drain out through them. Also good to take a close look at the whole area, don't want any water leaking into the interior, which it can from the cowl area. I used some truck bed linerand undercoating sprayed on to seal the whole thing up.
