Hello

Post by mullioni »

I have a 79 spider that has been sitting in my garage for the last 20 years. It has the typical symptoms. Broken drivers seat, rear quarter panel rust, and in need of some overall TLC. It was last run 10 years ago. It wouldn't pull fuel, but would run if fed from the carb. While it's still cold here in South Carolina, I'm going to first attack the gangsta drivers seat. I found some good info here on the site. Then I am planning on removing the gas tank. Re-finishing, replace the gas lines, and see if I can get her running again.

Regards,
Mark

Hi there...cold in south Carolina??? man did Punxsutawney Phil ever get it wrong this year...
Glad to see a renewed interest in the car.
A couple of things after sitting for a number of years.. yes the fuel is a good start. Might find all or some of the rubber hoses have rotted out and will leak fuel so beware about that. Timing belt...don't want it to break and smack the valves up.
Before a spin around the block...brakes...
good luck in the quest to get it sorted and up and running.

With previous plans to bring spidey back from a deep, deep, deep sleep derailed by work and family, I see an opportunity (time and more importantly funding approval :) in 2017 to get her running again. This past weekend I jacked her up and did an inspection. Are spiders supposed to have so many webs? All the wheels spin and are not locked. Pumped up the tires, took apart the seat backs, and started on the gas tank. Initial plans are to work on the fuel system, cooling system, and brakes to get her running again. Tires are also a must, and rather than refinish the stock rims, leaning towards new 15's.

Also lots of reading here on the site. Lots of skills and inspiration here, and looking forward to your advice and fiat spider wisdom.

Car looks pretty solid! That is an nice looking color. Others can comment, but I am not sure that I have seen it much at all on '79s or thereabouts.
