Yes thanks, seems I don't have the number 4 piece, must be a rubber part
I'm not seenning clearly how that bottom piece slids on, it must all go into the top section then u push it on the bottom section? Righ

Image

This is how it looks in the diagram, so it slides in the top section?
What holds that bottom peice on

Lol ok.
You been great
Well that bottom one has got to be jammed up into it to lock. This is how I see it
I think in my photo, that bottom one needs to go in the other way

The middle plastic piece is also backwards. Turn the very left piece around and slide it down the shift shaft. Put on one of the thick rubber bushings next, turn next plastic piece around and slide over lever and push past the lip so those pieces that are cut will snap to the lip just below the to of the shaft. Next put the next big rubber grommet on then the top rubber cap.

You also want to be sure there is no OLD rubber pieces stuck up inside your shift tube ( the chrome shaft your shifter ball is on ). Once you clear that then slide it down on top of all those pieces you just put on. Pushing down you want to work the bottom plastic piece up into the rib you see on the bottom of the chrome housing to lock everything together.

I just did this on my car and followed the shop manual instructions. They simply tell you to assemble all parts into the hollow shift rod (item 2) in the order that Brian mentioned, including the lower plastic clip. You then simply push (hard) it into place on the lower shift rod until you feel it click. Worked like a charm! I put a bit of silicone grease on all the parts to ease assembly, but it does make the rod rotate very easily (some may not like that).

Hope this helps.

I need one of those manuals. Never thought to put it all together and try it. But my shifter is out so Ill give it a try when it goes back together. I usually remove that stuff and force it down lower on the shaft to get that short shifter feel. Works for me until someone gets in your car thinking the have to pick up the handle to get it in reverse and there left holding it in there hand :)
