Brakes/booster

Post by fiat218 »

I know I need pads etc,and also one wheel needs the caliper, but regardless them issues
Sitting in the garage, idling , I pump the brake pedal and the engine starts to idle faster?
I know I have read some place on this forumn that it possible a booster problem? As in leaking?
Let me know what you think
Thanks

If it's a vacuum leak, why doesn't it leak all the time?

I was told by mechanic, that the booster is working hard so it will do that
I will get a brake job and bleed the brakes, I guess I left out half the story
I got no brake caliper on one wheel, and I redone the front suspension and I never bled the brakes
So I guess I will get all wheels done and then see what happens
Sorry,I jump the conclusion

Yes do all that first & see if it fixes it

then if still doing it...

To double check if the booster is leaking remove the booster vacuum line from the intake manifold & cap it at the manifold (removes it from the engine vacuum system) then run the engine & pump the brakes, If the idle change is eliminated then suspect the booster & test further

Although faster idle when depressing brakes seems backward as a leak in the vacuum thru the booster would make higher idle initially but when pushed would draw the idle down (like a leaking PCV {N/A to our cars} or intake manifold leak {lean mixture})
Usually leaking booster results in the engine dying when brakes applied

Correct me if I'm wrong

beleive it or not, I only had the leak when I applied the brakes, a new booster solved the problem, just be sure to measure the acorn nut and adjust the difference.
