Hello to the group.
I am situated in Brisbane, Australia. Spent a lifetime with old cars and trucks including a few FIATS. Now on the hunt for a clean 124 Spider. Looks like pretty good info on this forum.

Thanks Pete for the photo information.
The old truck forum I belong to uses Photobucket as well and although the method of getting photos up is different it works pretty well. Main thing is NEVER clean up your photos or everything you ever put up will be gone. I found putting everything for each forum in a specific folder keeps your main library uncluttered and avoids the temptation to reduce the huge number of photos you have to search through to find stuff.

Re: New Member Check In
Just got it registered today. Drives very nicely apart from the truck steering under 40kph. I will try to run a higher pressure (about 40psi) and see if that makes it any better. Wide tyres look good - 195/50-15 - and stick to the road but you can have too much of a good thing when parking.

Good to hear you've got it registered and on the road. The steering is heavy I know - probably even more so with your tyres. I was thinking of going down the path of putting in rack and pinion steering (maybe even power assisted) but for now I'm ok with it as is.
Maybe give it time and you'll be used to it?

Martin,
I will be going on a two day run with the Fiat Club this weekend and it should give me and the car time to get used to each other.
Tried 40psi. Ride is harsher but steering is now quite OK for an Armstrong system - easy fix.

Pictures of your pleasant weekend with other Fiats will be expected!

Reside in Louisville, KY. Going to buy my first Spider this weekend, having only owned classic VW's. Looking forward to this new adventure.

Re: New Member Check In
Lang, Welcome. You will get over the steering heaviness. My '82 is only terrible under 5mph. Not as nice as my kid's '91 Honda.
BTW that vehicle in the background looks very inviting too. A late 20s or early thirties vehicle?

Re: New Member Check In
Firstly the run on the weekend.
We had the "Red Rodents" on the run up to Toowoomba, meeting at Fernvale for coffee on the most perfect day. Fiat 124, New 500, my Spider and a Ferrari.
Booked into a motel in Toowoomba then went to club member Sean Rooney's Post Office Restaurant which he closed for the night and put on a full Italian eating marathon for about 25 Fiat Club members. Next morning we went out to the airfield and joined about 1,000 classic cars from clubs all over Queensland and interstate along with a whole bunch of vintage planes and warbirds. I think we had about 20 Fiats in our club section. Paul Bartlam took this very arty photo of my new Spider.
Came home over Mount Glorious with Carl Neilsen in his race Spider on the fabulous winding mountain road. As one is want to do, it became a bit competitive until the handbrake started complaining she was being either pinned to the door or thrown across the gear shift.
The car someone asked about in my shed is a 1948 Humber Super Snipe. It is completely original and running still with its 1948 number plate. I have only had it about a month owing to owning a Russian Army Dnepr sidecar motorcycle which just sat in my shed. The Humber owner wanted the bike and we did a straight swap. It has all the records including the fact it carried the Queen of England in 1954 when she visited Hamilton in Victoria on her Australian tour. Apparently they did not have any Rolls Royces to pick her up at the airport for her one hour visit so the Mayor asked the Humber owner to turn up. I think I will charge $5 for a sit in the back seat!
