Re: New Member Check In
Nice line up of "Red Rodents". It sounds like a great weekend. The run up "the range" would have been only surpassed by the run back down!

Hi all, very excited. Heading to the upper P in Michigan to pick up my 76 Spider this Friday. My first since I was on the left coast of Canada back in the early 80's. Had a 74 back then, little wiser and a few more $'s to keep it in shape this time. I beat the tar out of that old one.

Replaced the 15X7 rims with 14X6. Tires have gone from 195/50X15 to 175/70X14. The difference is amazing. Vastly better ride, less noise and it actually steers comfortably at all speeds.

Here is the finished product.
15" wheels replaced by Ferrari Cromodora Daytona style 14" (I don't know what these wheels are off but they had FIAT center caps. Not Alfa as those had raised sections between bolts and slightly different star profile)
Front is raised 30mm by replacing lowered springs with standard. Rear retains the lowered springs.
I think it not only looks better but certainly is very much better to drive.

I'm excited for you! My story is similar, had a 75 in early 80's was just a kid. It was nice but I beat it up as well, and didn't have $ back then to keep it up. Now I'm older with a better career and bought a 74 to restore. It should be on the road in a few months! Yay! Have Fun.Martin124 wrote:Be sure to supply us with some photos of your "new" Spider... and be nice to this one!waynew1960 wrote: Hi all, very excited. Welcome.
Very nice looking car. I also have an '81, just picked it up last spring. I love both sets of wheels on the car, but the 5 spoke star is definitely on the list of possible wheel options in the future. I currently have the 14 inch Turbo wheels like the car in the masthead with 195/60 tires. I would also like to drop the rear a little. What springs do you have in the back?

The springs in the back are Australian King Springs (they specialize in performance springs and are on-line). Model KFRL-61.
The King code KFRL stands for King Fiat Rear Lowered or KFFS King Fiat Front Standard, the numbers are part number.

They are lowered about an inch from standard. Can't figure out the system because the front springs are KFFS - 60 standard height and the car sits level.
Did the original car sit with its tail up a bit? Another thing in the mix is the King Springs list actually calls these springs just FIAT 124 and if made for the 124 Coupe might be different to the Spider originals with a higher back. Who knows? It looks right now and that is the way I will run it.

Re: New Member Check In
Thanks Lang.
Yes, the newer cars sit a little higher in the back. It may have been due to bumper height requirements. I removed my front bumper so the looks a little more even, but still a bit higher in the back.
