Introduction from Adelaide Australia

Post by terisimo »

Hello,
I had a 1972 Fiat Spider 1600 (burgundy with cream interior) in 1976, while living in Washington State. I imported the car to Australia when I moved here in 1978 and drove it for several years before selling it in 1983. Always regretted that.

After looking for a couple of years, I recently purchased a 1970 Fiat Spider BS1 1600. I believe the car was imported from California in the early 1990's and converted to right hand drive. It was originally bright red. The car was re-sprayed in the aqua colour before it was imported here.
It seems to be in good overall condition with very little rust. I have replaced the wheels with refurbished cromodora CD3's and new hubcaps. I replaced the dash and consloles with a newly re-skined ones. I have installed relays for the lights, repaired the turn signals, fixed the non working brake lights, new shock absorbers, given the motor a complete tune-up and replaced the top boot cover.
On the agenda are: new timing belt, new front suspension, replace driveline bearing and donut and a new canvas top.

I also have two Fiat X19's a 1978 1300 and 1981 1500 (the red one behind the spider), so I'm well versed in FIATs.

Cheers, Terry

Welcome. I like the color of the car. I also would like one of those VW notchbacks in the background.

... and a "welcome" from me too Terry.

Can you explain something for me? I've noticed that Adelaide seems to have an enormous number of classic car enthusiasts. Some of the nicest cars I've seen for sale often come from Adelaide. Thoughts, comments? :)

Thanks for the replies, the colour is azzuro and is a Fiat colour, but from what I gather, was used on early 500's?
I like the colour too, it's one of those colours you either like or despise I guess. It gives the car a unique classic ambience.
I like cars with unusual colours. Most new cars are so boring in colour choice these days. Many people have commented that they like it.

Martin, Adelaide is definitly the car capital of Australia! We have the one of the largest classic and historic car events in the world, with the Bay to Birdwood each year. It attracts up to 2,000 entrants.
The McLaren Vale Vintage and Classic, the event from which the photo was taken above, attracts around 400 cars each year. We now have the Adelaide Auto Italia in October each year as well. We have a very active Fiat/Lancia car club and have organised drives at least once a month.
South Australia is also the home of the National Car Museum at Birdwood.

Cheers, Terry

Terry,

Wow, very nice car. I really like the color, and the wheels.

Good luck with it.

From my observations I have to agree with you. I was there some years ago and visited Birdwood Museum as well. Awesome place for car lovers!
