So this is a continuation of my floor restoration thread elsewhere.
I ended up doubling the EZ Cool over the Cat Con, and adding secondary closed cell dense foam padding under the drivers side:
I found the secondary padding at a local craft supply store, "Michaels" here in MA. A 36 x 60 roll was only 5 bucks. It is a little thin, so I adhered 2 layers together and gained 3/16 thickness: Works great, and very inexpensive!
New inner boot seal and top foam installed:
And back together with new carpets and seats it all finally went, transformed from stock tan/beige interior to my preference: grey and black cuisine with genuine imitation authentic faux leather.
I can say that the dyeing approach is great and very cost effective, but it is not durable. Getting these consoles back in without scratching them or causing other damage seems near impossible. I now have some "spray in place" touchup work left to do. But overall I am happy with the results. Am also ordering some coco mats and will be ready to roll as soon as the weather obliges!
I can taste the scallop plate at the Lobster Hut in Plymouth already!

Why would anyone dye the seats, when you know it will wear off or scratch off and look like hellRRoller123 wrote:So this is a continuation of my floor restoration thread elsewhere.

Re: Secondary Carpet Padding
The seats are genuine faux imitation authentic leather. The upper and lower consoles, door panels, armrests, rear quarter panel covers, etc are dyed.

Re: Secondary Carpet Padding
Thanks for posting about the 3/16 foam build up. I don't have a cat on my 72, so I suspect I'll apply your driver's solution to both footwells.
YEARS ago, I took spouse and kids to Plymouth Rock, and we ate at a small lobster place at the end of that pier. Still there? Everyone still talks about it....

Might be the Lobstuh Hut, but it really isn't on the end of pier, although it is waterside(?) The only pier nearby has the Mayflower berthed at it's end. No restaurant there as far as I know.

Re: Secondary Carpet Padding
Just Google-mapped Plymouth....
Holy cow.
We were there in 93, and where the Pilgrim Bell is docked, there was a little ramshackle place selling lobsters and seafood. Actually, it appears the entire are was redone....I recall an arcade looking place about where the cruise office is located.
Guess stuff changes in 20 years.
My Mom's family is all still out there in the Lexington area. I was last there in 09 on a business trip. Time to go back....
Thanks!
Neil

Re: Secondary Carpet Padding
Most all interiors are dyed from the factory, the key to a good job is using a quality dye, available at most auto paint stores.
And making sure the material you are dyeing is perfectly clean, the supplier should have or be able to suggest what you should use.
