Just thought I would share this with you all.
I had a pretty rough looking console as you can see. Cut the bad out. Resprayed it with vinyl paint from SEM. Filled it with general silicone/latex interior caulking - the stuff you use for windows etc. Went out and got a few free samples of laminate flooring from the flooring store, made it to fit the hole. Bad a bing. It all looks quite well.
To be honest, my skills at this sort of thing are somewhat lacking, it looks ok but not WOW that looks like factory. With hindsite, I think if I do this again, I will just rip the whole thing out and go console - less. I just thought that I would show what can be done with a few hand tools, wood and paint.
The last picture, It actually looks a lot better in real life than the photo suggests. The patch up job you can see is hardly noticeable in daylight!
Cheers

Re: Center console refurb
I think you did a fantastic job from what I could see from the photo's. Mine is not so bad just a little rough around the e- brake. I see what you did with the laminate. I like it. I know now that I have one more project to add to the list.

Re: Center console refurb
Great work! I am wanting to do something similar with my centre console. It is nasty around the hand brake as well, so I was just going to chop off all the bad, and add some wood.

Re: Center console refurb
I cut a piece of 1/4" plywood & painted it black to do just that, I havn't cut everything out to install it yet...so I think I like what you did way better, I'll have to find a piece to match the fake mahogany of my dash & do the same.
I have lots of scrap from just replacing my floors down stairs but I think its way to blonde to match.
Nice post!

Re: Center console refurb
Thanks for the encouragement guys.
I actually went to 2 flooring places. I just mumbled something about changing the basement flooring and the staff were happy to supply me with several samples to take home. Cherry walnut (I think) is the colour I used .I kind of feel a little bad for wasting their time but what to do?

My two cents ain't worth what it used to be
