Transmission input shaft wear limit
I have about 0.008" wear on the input shaft where the pilot bearing rides. Is this too much or can I run it as is? Can the shaft be machined and a sleeve put on?

Re: Transmission input shaft wear limit
I would slide a new pilot bearing over it and see how loose it feels.

Re: Transmission input shaft wear limit
I think I'll just buy a new shaft. I don't want to risk the input bearing blowing due to excess wobbly of the part. Though I've seriously considered welding and grinding the worn area smooth.

8 thou wouldn't concern me, I'd just fit it. You could source a bearing with a smaller inner diameter and machine the shaft to fit if you want a tighter tolerance.
