'68 124 in Oakland, CA

Hi All,

I've been reading the boards for the past 6 months or so but thought i should properly introduce myself and my car. I recently took a '68 124 off my brothers hands and am slowly making upgrades. My initial focus was cosmetic but i'm getting into the engine compartment now. I put an electronic ignition (fireball 3000) a new coil, and a few other odds and ends in. Despite my desire to know everything i actually know very little about this car. Unfortunately i was inside watching tv while my dad and brother worked on it as a kid. Now i have some learning to do without much of a support system. I'm hoping i can lean on the forum to help me fix this ride up and make it run like new.

Hopefully you won't mind me asking a question in my intro as i'm not really sure where to start. I've put the electronic ignition in and messed with the timing and idle but i don't feel like i have it dialed in. Prior to 6 months ago i had never adjusted an idle or timing. With the electronic ignition and the fact that the electric trigger sensor being on an adjustable mount, should i expect the timing to match with 10degree marks on the engine? It runs so rough at that point i feel like i have to just make a best estimate on where to put the timing so that it runs better at speed. I'll gladly repost in the engine section, but thought i would start here.

Thanks,
Peter

Nice looking car. I lived in Oakland for many years and have recently moved to Walnut Creek. I still work in Oakland and drive my Spider to work at least once a week, usually on Fridays. I have the same ignition on my Spider. Makes starting a lot easier. Welcome to the board.
