Buying 1981 spider. Things to look for?

I'm looking at a 1981 spider. Are there things to watch out for? No rust issues on this one. Also, windshield is cracked. Any good advice on places to buy good replacements?

I would still check for rust under the carpets and on the shocktowers - just to be sure

Call local glass shops for the windshield, likely they can get one. Shipping one from a parts vendor would likely cost $2-300.

Check the driver's door for sagging - all Spider 2000s are prone to cracking doors where the upper hinge mounts.

What to check depends on the condition of the car - does it run and drive fine?

Thanks. You're right the drivers door is sagging. Sounds like a little welding project.

The door can be a bit more of a little welding job, but it is reparable. Check the action on the clutch as well. If the cable is old, the cable can stick because of lousy grounding and the clutch cable and sheath can move together. This will flex at the firewall , eventually cracking it and then tearing it. Again a relatively easy fix but fiddly thing really.
As mentioned check under all the carpets front and rear for floor rust.
Personally get the best rust free car you can afford. If it has not run much or has a few mechanical issues, they are usually easier and cheaper to fix compared to cutting and welding rusty bits if you don't have the skill set and tools.
