Replacing door handle locks... need help!

I am replacing the passenger side outside door handle as well as the lock cylinder. My question is where does that little spring go? I've tried inserting it first and then on top and in between the piece that screws down. Can't figure it out...anyone know ??

Can you post a picture or at least the model year? I am not sure what spring you are describing, did you remove the spring as part of the whole door handle latch mechanism, or as part of the cylinder replacement?

Great pictures..thanks so much.its the cylinder lock spring that you can see clearly in your picture..mine is an 81 spider 2000...it looks like it hooks on...I'll take some pics...its a little different but I might be able to figure it out..Thanks so very much again!!
