Hello All!
I am located in southern Arizona along the Mexican border near Nogales. I purchased this 1980 Fiat 2000 Spider from a person who was going to restore it 8 years ago. Needless to say that did not happen. This is my first Fiat. My wife picked it out of Craig's list and stated that she wanted this to drive back and forth to work. If there is someone else around in the area with a car like this, I would appreciate a PM so I can see what one looks like in good condition.
It was left outside with out a top. So the interior is melted by the sun and has some rust in the floorboards, although the body does look in good shape. The hood was off and the head and parts were taken from the motor. So the cylinders are rusted in the bores. (On a good note, I have a great boat anchor! )
I have already begun to get the car stripped and ready for work. I have been working on the drive train. It has an automatic trans, which the wife says she wants to keep. I have already ordered the parts for the brakes and suspension that needs to be replaced or rebuilt. And am taking the time to remove all the underside to clean and inspect it so I feel good that it will be a safe car to drive.
As the engine and all the wiring is gone. I cannot decide if I should go with another engine/trans combo or spend the money and get it back to stock. Not looking for a high powered sports car but I don't want a slug either.
I will definitely need some help on this, as this is a big project and I am not familiar with the Fiat brand. Very nice body style.
Gene and Liz
PS. Will post some pictures as soon as I figure it out.

First try:
I think you may have to "right click" the mouse and open in another tab to see all of the picture.

you need to shrink your picture to a width of 700 pixels for the entire picture to show.

Glad to see another Spider being saved in Southern Arizona. There's a few of them around Tucson metro and there's a couple of mechanics around here who still know how to work on them if you don't want to do it yourself. As long as you have a good frame and a good shell the rest can be easily fabbed or replaced.

Yes it was. For getting a title in AZ all you need is a bill of sale and the VIN. As long as it has no leans or is stolen, you should be able to get a title transfer and plate. I haven't done this yet, but will in the next few days. If anything has changed, I'll let you know.garion wrote:Southern Phoenix area here.

There's another one in Tucson for you - this one has an automatic. Might be able to merge the two cars into a single nice one and have some parts left over!
