After months of seraching I finally pulled the trigger on a 1976 Spider. Looked at several models of cars including Karmann Ghia, TR6, MGB and 240Z. One common piece of advice was to buy the most rust free car you can find. After looking at several advertised "rust free" cars I was beginning to think none existed here in the midwest.
Found a three owner car that appears to have been undercoated by the original owner. The car was purchsed in Denver and spent its first 25 years in Nebraska. After that it made its way to Missouri. Does not appear to have been driven much if at all in the winter. The car looks to have been well maintaned and a mostly original 90,000 mile car. Came with original owners manuals, various receipts and what appears to be a complete Fiat tool kit in the plastic case.
It is missing a spare tire and has aftermarket wheels on it. Runs and drives and I hope to pass inspection this weekend. My plans are to go through the mechanicals first. No documentation on when timing belt was last changed and there are plenty of oil leaks to sort out. After that a repaint is in the near future. PO paint job has plenty of runs but I found no evidence of any bondo. Interior is free of any tears or rips and the top appears new. Still has the original map holders in place. The plastic clock face is clouded over but the clock still works. Two sets of original keys as well.
Will be spending some time looking over prior posts this weekend to get me started in the right direction. Sorry, no pics yet. Just go the car home the other night.

Hi Scott. I'm also in KC (Olathe) and am new to the Fiat world. I've got a '77 I'm working my way through.
