Oil Pressure Switch

Post by opus10583 »

Hi,

So, the oil pressure sender is closed with low pressure therefore, there's an oil pressure light relay?

Thanks,
Mark

I don't think there is a relay between the switch and the light: no/low oil pressure allows the switch to closed and completes the circuit and the light come on.

Hi George,

Thanks, in my panic I wasn't thinking clearly...

Any tips for troubleshooting a sudden oil pressure light activation?

Let the car idle through a fan on/off cycle, set the timing and adjusted the carb, shut it down.

Replaced the turn signal relay with an LED compatible part, needlessly disturbing the passenger side relay tray, it was under the driver's side.

Started off for a drive and the oil light came on after an few hundred yards....

New short block, 10miles on it; thinking it ought to be 35yr-old wiring.

Thanks,
Mark

disconnect wire at the pressure sender switch. If the light stays lit the wiring is at fault. If it goes out I would check oil pressure with a oil pressure gauge in place of the sender.

OK... I guess this is where the real fun starts:

Started the car, first time since Saturday; oil light light shut off as soon as it caught.

Picked up a carbed-2000 electronic ignition setup, couldn't drive the pin to rebuild my distributor, have a new switch on the way, will button it all up by Saturday afternoon and see what happens.

Ciao,
Mark

Hi,

...light stays lit with the wire disconnected.

Car starts, light goes out, car idles, light comes on.
