Hello
About a month ago I bought a 1980 fuel injected spider, my first of this type. I have owned at least 5 spiders and a couple of coupes. I bought my first one new in 1969, and none have been as pretty as that one (positano yellow), with Libre rims. I gave up on spiders in 1989 when my 1800 broke a timing belt. The car was disintegrating into rust, although that's not surprising, since I parked it on a dock every day. Then the building inspector found my seven parts cars and I had get rid of them.
I recently got lucky on ebay. There are only a few wheel well problems and virtually no rust underneath this car. Although it was listed with quite a list of problems, I had seen them all and were very easy to fix. I still have the apparently common problem of the engine dying after 20 seconds or so. I cannot get the idle system to do anything either. It is getting better, maybe just from being driven. New tires, brakes and wheel bearings made a huge difference too. New timing belt of course.
I have learned a huge amount from this forum and appreciate this greatly. There was nothing like this 20 years ago.
Thank you
Jim Akens
