Hi all!
I just purchased my second 850 Spider. I had my first one in 1987 (I believe it was a '71) and I loved it, but I had to return it to the seller and get my money back because it wouldn't pass state inspection due to ... well ... "rust" would be an understatement - basically it had no frame left underneath!
Anyway, I never forgot my first love and I finally found another one! This one is a '69 and it is an absolute gem! I'm the second owner not counting the exporter/importer who rescued it from San Jose, California and brought it to Sicily via the Netherlands. It had been sitting for about 5 years before I found it so my trusty mechanic is sorting out the braking system and doing all the basic "just bought a used car" tune-up stuff right now. Then I'll need to jump through all the hoops to have it registered as a classic car here in Italy and that will take up to 4 months (welcome to Italian bureaucracy!) so that should put me in good shape to enjoy her for the spring/summer of 2014!

Just read the thread on how to post pics, so here you go!
These were taken "pre-me", so as soon as I have her back in my hands I'll take some more to post.

Thanks, John! I'm certainly looking forward to getting into the wind again... the next 4 months or so will be torture seeing that little beauty in my garage without being able to take her out (legally! ) for a spin!PininF wrote:What a beautiful little car you must be a very happy man, I wish you all the best on your new journey together.

Re: 1969 850 Spider
Now this is a HUGE longshot, but who knows??? I checked around on the net and googled the name my car was registered to in San Jose, CA and it looks like Ms. Phyllis Vanwagner bought the car new in 1969 (she would have been about 43 at the time) and I'm thinking she must have owned it until she moved to Portland, OR (I'm guessing here, because I found her obituary - 2010 - from Portland, OR, but the car cleared customs in Holland in March '04, still bearing the California tag).
So the big question is... with all the Fiat Spider enthusiasts on this forum, maybe somebody actually remembers seeing this one or maybe somebody came across a classified ad when Ms. Vanwagner was trying to sell it about 10 years or so ago?
Of course none of this makes a bit of difference, but I'm one of those people who like to know the story behind the find, especially when it's MY find!
I'm posting this on the Fiat Spider FB group too, just to get maximum exposure
