you drill out the spot welds, remove front fenders, repair the damage, weld fenders back onJasonM wrote:Well I guess that's good and bad. So when the car gets sand blasted how do we not damage the fender seals? And how do I fix the area where the drivers fender meets the cowl around the door area. The place where someone ran some silicon, that probably should be something like seam sealer.

Sounds tedious. I've been doing that with fender supports on my other project car. I'm so excited to be able to do more of that. (sarcasm)

yup, a major PITA, but the only way to get to those all so important structural bits behind fenders

Yeah the gf really wants a nice Fiat. I see twp problems with this. 1 She's frugal 2 I will dedicate my time which I dont have alot of, but I probably won't put much money towards the car to fix it.
However I was surprised she bought it, we looked at a few about 5 years ago that were restorable. At the last second she backed out.
I told her the best way to do a proper job of fixing the car was to remove the front fenders, she replied okay lets do it right.
How much is this going to cost?
I said probably a low number, around 15k
I figure 2k for the engine, 2k for they interior and the rest for body work.

you plan on doing it yourself? you have the tools and skill to do it? car looks nice but who knows what lurks under that paint?
get under the car and have someone move the steering wheel from side to side. if chasis legs aren't moving, you're probably not looking at huge job. if they do move in the area where steering box is attached, prepare for a year of pain.

If it's that big a job we will probably sell it. I'm not in for that big a job. What's involved in fixing it? Make gusset's and brace everything?

Yikes!!!! Yeah that rust is concerning. I poked my head into the wheel wells yesterday. Everything on this side of the fenders look solid, we will have so see how thing look on the back side once we pull the fenders and sand blast.
