Hello

I purchased a 1972 Fiat Spider 124 1600 approximately 8-9 months ago and am in the process of getting it running this spring..Apr.or May as I Iive in South Western Ontario. This car has been stored for the last 20 years as far as I can get information. The bonus is it is in pretty good condition both mechanically and body wise. Lucky for me as I have never entered the area of car retoration and thus I am looking forward to the excellent advice that I see in this form. The previous owner lost the key and took the ignition to an auto locksmith shop to have a new one made. Again this was 20 years ago and he continues to look for the ignition swith. Aside from this both back caliphers are ceased and I'm looking for replacements. I look forward to joining the form and will address my questions to the relavant forms.

Many of the vendors offer an ignition switch with keys. As you read through the forum you will see a lot of threads related to getting the car up and running the first time. Fuel, spark and air. Make sure the engine can turn over. If the car has been sitting that long you will need to focus on fuel system first. Hopefully the brake lines are in a state where you can flush the entire system.

Welcome and good luck with your restore. Post a few pics so we can see what you are starting with. learning how to post a pic takes a couple attempts to figure out.
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!

]Than you for the welcome.

Here is a picture of the 72 Fiat Spider 1600 I call "Gergio" I wasn't sure how to post multiple pictures but can add later. Since this picture I have replaced the radiator and hoses; completed most of the brakes except rear caliphers; sandblasted and painted the rims and put new tires on. Put the front fender on...it is in fair condition. The rear bumper needs work. I added a new battery but am getting a short that needs to be found. There are a lot of tinkering things to do and I am finding that I have been using a lot of instalation fluid and enjoying the restore!

Welcome to Fiat world. I am a newbie as well. Got the 1982 late in the fall and stored before snow fall. Looking forward to spring. I would love to see the formation of a SW Ont club. Perhaps an annual tour?

Lucky you got your car into storgae early. After this past weeks ice storm my wife was not so pleased to be scrapping her car and shoveling out before she could go shopping. So I called for a flatbed tow truck and moved to my son in laws workshop were he has 2 boats, snowmobills and keeps 2 tractor trailer trucks. It is going to be a lot more comfortable working on my Fiat when he is out on long distance truck trips.
There is a Toronto Fiat club which I registered with. They had a Christmas gathering and unfortunatley I was not able to attend as I headed out to Mexico that day for a 2 week vacation. They sent a very nice Christmas card to all it's members. I think they have a few tours a year and participate in Italian car day. Otherwise I think there are other Fiat car owners in SW Ont. and as I am a newbie as well haven't got to know anyone. By the way I am looking for a left (passengerside) rear caliper as my is ceased. Otherise I will buy 2 rebuilt ones.
