Dual carb on a 79
I am considering getting one of the carb kits in the link below for my 79 automatic spider. The engine is stock. Will these work on me engine? Is there anything else I will need to make the switch?

I am switching because I would like to get rid of the emission mess. ( my secondary barrel has never worked for example).

the installation issue you will have is to make the detent cable for the auto trans still function. That cable is critical to transmission operation

BEEK said on an older post that "actually, i have the linkage solution for auto trans as well, if you are using center pull on the carbs. meaning the linkage is using the ball mount between the carbs, as on the originals, there is a easy linkage to use the twist linkage from the 76 on spiders/131's". Does any know how this works and where I could find one?

I think you would be much better off just changing carbs, rather than going to dual carbs. Especially on an unmodified engine.

I agree with Bob, get a 1800 intake manifold and a Weber 32/36 dfev and you will be happier.

1800 intake, Weber DFEV 32/36, and FI 4-2-1 exhaust makes a world of difference.

1800 manifold, 34 adf, you will probably have o rejet hey come too lean. ask me how i know better combination imho

Real happy with my 34ADFA, Ralph re-jetted it, thanks Ralph. 76 1800.
And the stock air cleaner is a perfect fit if you like it.
I've got the 4-2-1 exhaust too.
Those dual carbs look way cool, but not sure how much bang for the buck.

Actually, just putting a 32-36 DFEV on a stock 79 manifold makes a large difference. All you need are spacers.

I love this forum, I would have made so many mistakes with out it.
Ok. So where is the best place to source the new carb and 1800 intake. If I am taking off the carb I might as well change the intake also. I have used autoricambi.us for parts in the past.
I don't know of anyone around Fort Wayne, Indiana that would help me rejet a carb so the 32/36 dfev seems like a easier route for me.
Btw I really love the look of the exhast on allisonsautomotive.com it will be a future purchase after I get it running again.

13mm Swivel socket and extension makes those nuts easier to get to. Its really not that bad compared to replacing that damn clutch cable or front springs.
I also like the 34ADF carb, such a simple carb and fits without any issues.
If you choose the 32/36 over the 34ADF make sure you get it from Mark or Auto Ricambi since the linkage will be set up correctly
Take a look at your exhaust manifold you might already have a 4-2-1 factory header.

Actually a stock 32 ADF off an 1800 and the 1800 manifold would be a vast improvement over the 79 setup. They should bwe a lot cheaper than a 34 ADF if money is an issue. As noted, the exhaust change from a 4-1 to a 4-2-1 makes a big improvement too. Removing the cat conv. will add a few more horsepower too.

The 32 ADF is a bit restrictive on a 2.0 isn't it? My impression was that they changed from a 34 to the 32 to try to get the cars past emissions issues on a 1.8... so the 32adf isn't necessarily a "great carb"... it is simply better than the POS the 79 came with stock.
that being said, you will have trouble finding a 34adf whereas you can buy a 32/36 brand new (For not much money either)... which tells me you can get parts MUCH more readily and, as already pointed out, you can get one new with the right linkage and jetting for your particular set up.
Is a 34 really better than a 32-36? Air volume should be nearly identical on the face of things (at WOT)... but I bet the 32-36 will get better gas mileage when you're not running it hard.
Also, I have read that the 4-2-1 exhaust is just as good as most headers out there. I find this kinda hard to believe... anyone had both and feel like commenting? I tend to find that all cast manifolds are a bit restrictive by header standards.
