New guy getting ready for a L36 engine swap

Post by chevyfiat »

Hi, I recently bought a 1978 Fiat with the motor in parts and missing the head. I have a 1996 Camaro with a 3800 L36 V6 donor motor. I'm waiting for the Wisconsin weather to warm up before I get started, but there is much research and head scratching to do.

I'm no stranger to a challenging engine swap. Here is a link to my 1996 Dodge Avenger coverted to rear wheel drive and a small block Chevy

I am going to try to have it completed in time for the 2014 Power Tour.

Here are a couple pictures of the Fiat after getting it home and cleaning all the leaves off that had covered the car in the previous owners driveway.

I admire your inititive.

May I inquire, would not the 3.1 60 degree v6 be more compact and suitable?

Good luck. Look in "custom" form blog you'll find mine and V6spider post. You may find V6 spider ( Rob ) very helpful in your project. I swapped a v8 ford 302.

Thanks 302brad, I was originally going to go with a 4.3 like v6spider but I got the camaro in a trade so no money out of pocket. My only concern is going to be with the wiring. Having the complete running Camaro should help.

Not sure its of any help but I did a l36 twin turbo swap a couple years ago in a Chrysler conquest and I have a few parts left over like a aluminum rear sump oil pan from a holden. It may help you clear the cross member. Let me know I could send you some pictures.
Good luck with the build!

Great swap on the avenger looks like it should be a lot of fun!!

I have a picture installed somewhere I will post to.
Its aluminium and I have the pick up tube as well.
I also have a custom bell housing to mate a tremec TKO transmission to a L67 or L36

It's been a long time since I stated my intention to swap in an L36, but it is finally under way. The motor and transmission are mounted. I'm working on installing the rack and pinion now. I'll try getting some pictures posted of the progress soon.
