I am also interested. What is the company name? I know some people were casting them in Italy a few years ago.

Rallysport development, couldn't find a webpage. I reckon you wouldn't see any change from $10k, maybe even lots more.

no i can't find their website. All i know is they've been around the classic car rallying scene in UK for years, (Ford Escorts mainly) and now turning their attention on the Fiat 131 Abarth GR4.
(closer to the $16000 for a complete cyl head with cams and valve gear)

Of course you will need a copy of the 16V version, but that's the easier to sourse part.

16000? who makes it NASA? For that price a guy could get it machined out of pure silver.

i know, more than what our cars are worth.
But with casting tooling in the region of $60000 for cyl heads.... he's trying to ametize his costs i suppose. And it will be new. People are asking that figure abov for a genuine used one in Europe!

$16,000 for a "replica" -> :roll:

I could have purchased one of the "newly cast" replica heads not long ago (out of Italy) for a hair under 5,000 Euros. Of course I baulked.

As far as $60,000 for casting, seems high, but who knows! I wonder if they sectioned a genuine Abarth head to measure and make the casting patterns? If not, it may only be the same on the outside. I have no idea if these re-cast heads would be historic rally legal?

Fot the cyl head only the cost was around $7000. But you need the cam carriers, the covers, cams, valves, springs etc. that's what you get for $16000 i think. I'm not suprised, i work for the motosport industry and small quantity specials, $16000 for a top end is normal price, when complete race engines could go for $80-100,000

Seems like you could have a billet one cut on a CNC machine for much less. No patterns required, once a program is made.
And these days they can take an original and scan it with a lazer I do belive, and spit'em out all week long if needed.

A few things to take into account though geno58:
you need a patern piece on hand to copy. Genuine uded cyl heads go for around $7-8000!
Then you need to make a 3d model (at least a week's work) + CNC programming time on top of that
And how would you machine the inside details of the cyl head like water-ways from a billet? Not possible as far as i know.
Different on the cyl block as you can have an open deck or add steel liners.

And that's just to have the cyl head done. You then need to get the valve gear sorted (springs, platforms, retainers etc) cams, cam boxes machined, covers. It goes on and on.

If it was that easy everyone would be having 16V Abarth heads in their spiders....
