Beginning my journey into the dash to replace a heater core and valve, and whatever else I find that needs some help. First funky thing I noticed with the wiring was this black wire loosely intertwined with a light blue/red stripe wire. Without knowing anything about wiring, even I know this aint right.
I'm thinking this may be related to the fact that I've never had emergency flashers, but that's a blind guess. I do have a new flasher switch I want to install, once I figure out where it goes.
And the upper console part that I removed looked fabricated and has no holes at all- just a fabricated black box. I'm thinking I've seen a hole for a lighter and the emergency flasher switch on other pics.
Any ideas on these wires? I guess its time to go to the artigue drawings to attempt to make sense of this.
thanks for your thoughts

update on the basic situation.
My radio console was a fabricated solid box with no openings- and the cigar lighter, hazard switch and radio were not in this car when I bought it.
I just sourced a salvaged radio console with the three openings mentioned. So I'm looking for power for these things:
cigar lighter
hazard lights
radio
Are black wires always grounds? I have 3 loose ones in the cluster. could the purple and black hand twisted together be the bypassed lighter or hazards?
I guess January is a good a month as any to tackle this stuff.

Tim, you need to get the wiring diagram and trace wires in and out of the fuse box. The fact you have what appears to be three different wires simply twisted together is serious cause for concern about the quality of work done.
