Tachometer won't go above 3000 rpm's

My '69 124 has the original Veglia tach. It works but won't read higher than about 3000 Rpm's. Has anyone experienced this?

Or get in there and change the 3 to an 8.

Haven't experienced this with my Fiat but have with my boat. Tapping the glass got it moving.

Took it to a speedometer/ tach repair shop today. He couldn't get it to work at all on his bench tester. I guess I'm in the market for a tach. It's the early style with chrome trim ring and flush mounting. If anyone has a working one please let me know.

If you can take it apart, unless it's an electronic repair, probably needs new grease.....it gets old and crusty /stiff over time. If you are handy electrically, most of the components can be sourced and replaced. Full replacement is easier of course, but at least it's an option

Sorry, I could not even find one gauge that I have, not sure what happen to them all, I had a box full of them 69 and 74, I will look more later

Thanks to Csaba, who found a nice used tach for me I can now tell when I'm exceeding 9000 rps's !
