Hello from Canada

Post by Leonard124 »

Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum and by the looks of things, this looks like a really nice forum.
I own a 1980 spider F.I. that I've had for the past 16 years. Not a show car but a daily driver...if it doesn't rain or snow.

Looking forward to reading all the posts and hopefully answer some.

Greetings
Leo

Hi there. I was going to say a daily driver in Montreal?? but you mentioned unless it rains and snows... made me think what would be left of the car after a few years of daily winter driving in Montreal...
Last name wouldn't be Cohen eh...

80 is a great year by the way :D

Leo,
Welcome to the forum, i'm from the Laval area, not far from you. These cars are a rare sighting around here, the ones i see i can count them on my one hand per season. I never see any daily drivers, Spiders here are generally kept in top shape. No rain, no snow in your words means it's not a daily driver either, you just ruled out 75% of the year in Montreal  ! There is a club originating out of Cafe Milano on Jarry street called Club Fiat Montreal. The members are owners of Italian cars in general and there are some interesting outings during our warmer months. Are you part of this club?
My '79 doesnt see rain either (unless the rare occasion i get caught in it). If we're not this careful with these cars, we'll stop seeing them altogether, lol

Thank you for the nice welcome.

No...I do not drive in winter. I store it in December and then start driving it in April.
But I do use it everyday if it's not raining or snowing. I live in Blainville and drive in to town everyday.

No...I haven't heard of any Fiat club in Montreal. Will take a look.

Greetings
Leo

Noticed 2 people from Ottawa.

Do you guys know a Canada Dan? He used to have a place east of Ottawa and he fixed and sold Fiat parts.

Haven't heard from him in a while...just wondering if he is still around.

Club Montreal does plan an outing to Ottawa (Italian week) every mid June, unfortunately that date always coincides with a motorcycling outing that i attend into New Hampshire, but i heard it's aweesome, right 4uall? My car goes to sleep in early October, not interested being in this car if the top is up. Never heard of Canada Dan. The only Fiat connections i have in this city is the famous Remo who supplies Fiat parts in Montreal East and Vince's garage, an awesome Fiat mechanic who prefers that you drive in with your own Fiat parts. Remo usually stocks anything you need but if you have time to wait for shipping you're better to deal with the various vendors that you read about on this forum.

Leonard, Canadan is alive and well and still living in Carlsbad Springs, although he has moved a few blocks away. He still has some parts, but as he says "he doesn't fix Fiats/Alphas anymore". As most of us on the forum know, easier said than done.
Canadan has been keeping my 68 on the road for the last 10 years. Buying my 68 Spider was a great "quality of life" improvement, finding Canadan was a bonus!
If you want his contact infol, PM me.

I was introduced to him by SpiderDan (another crazy Dan). Lots of knowledge, good guy, a little rough around the edges, very helpful and I have had no issues

Still fixes and sells however, I believe it is to a select few (may have to ask the Dans about that) :?
