Wipers not working

Post by meman124 »

Hi,
On my 1969 AS Spider, the wind screen wipers stopted working.
So i took the whole thing apart.
Motor is Bakony 4 wire type.
Does anybody know this thing?
How can i test it?
Thanks for helping.

Hi Bart,
I can't see the pics, as the site requires a password.

Bakony was a Hungarian brand of electric components made in the 70s and 80s, so my guess is that the motor is a replacements.
One of the leads is usually black, that is ground. You can test the motor by touching the black lead to the negative side of the battery and touch the others one by one to the positive, and see if the motor comes on.
We do sell a replacement wiper motor with 4 wires:

yes, that is the one.
When i put 12 V over the ground and the red wire, it turns. But on the other wires on the connector, nothing happens.

Looks as if the black block component is broken.
Does anybody know what it is?

I am sort of guessing:
The white nylon gear has a cam lobe on it. Some wiper motors use this cam to activate a switch for the park position of the wipers. If the black part you are talking about is a switch the metal piece that would ride on the white gears cam appears to be missing.

Non, that bit is working perfectly.
Its the black rectangular thing with the 2 wires. Something electrical. Cap, resistance or other

ok, pulled the little black component apart.
is some kind of mechanical/electrical thing...
very clever bit of engineering.

cleaned it, put it back together.
Put everything back together, then smoke, melted insulation on 2 wires and 2 fuses blown.
Replaced everything.
now wipers work!

Only new issue: the round peg where you put the wipers on, on the right side, is not gripping enough.
Any fixes for that?

Looks like the switch that breaks the contact when the wipers are in the parked position.

Those clever Hungarians! :-) (I am Hungarian)

>now wipers work!

All is well if it ends well!

I think there is a spring on the wiper arm to keep tension on spindle. You may need to bend it a bit.
However if the arm or spindle is too work, you may have to replace one or both.
Try swapping arms left to right to see if the problem moves.

2 layers of alu foil did the trick (at least i think).
Found this in another post on the forum.
