thanks- i figured it was something like that. my hood has the raised bumps, but only the little ones, not the larger later ones. I am having clearance issues even with the 1.8-
in my head now is, get marks unit so I can clear with my current hood (better than having to lower the whole engine!) and then if at some point i find a nice no bump hood I can get that and have the car look proper 69 even with a 1800 engine. oh yeah. Maybe anyway- not sure if a flat hood will clear the 1.8 even without a distributor.
screw it- go with electronic ignition?

Re: screw it- go with electronic ignition?
I have a flat hood with a 2L. done it with both carb and FI. I bought marks solid state ignition and installed the pick-up in the old 1438 dizzy hole. It does require tweaking the alt bracket and the module itself is big and does require some thought about where to put it. The plug wires are very long so you have lots of options for placement. I'm very happy with mine. As far as other clearance items with a flat hood was the center hood support would make contact with the belt cover....just enough to rub the paint. If you truly have an 1800, i dont think you will have an issue. The FI plenum also created a rub issue.

Dual-to-single points conversion instructions: http://www.international-auto.com/fiat- ... ersion.cfmjetboy wrote:hmm. then it looks like my car is more of a bastard than i thought. the distributor is definitely dual points. someone has tried to put various parts together that do not go together. thus my confusion as to how all this could possibly work.
Re: screw it- go with electronic ignition?
thanks. I actually did try that- just hooked up one side- but got no spark. points looked good so i was thinking maybe the coil was shot- or anyway, something in the chain wasn't working. for that and various reasons (mostly the hood clearance) i went for marks unit. ill keep you posted on how the install goes when it gets here!
Re: screw it- go with electronic ignition?
arrived and installed. very easy to install- some slight issues as i cleaned the fuse box connection and fixed a few connection.. then a bit of starter fluid (carb is not on) and she fired immediately! sounded friggin awesome! (its got some aftermarket exhaust) and shot smoke all about.
so first fire for this car- I believe ever - with its 1756 engine. still a mongrel- the headblock numbers I looked up said its from a 74-76 coupe. So we have a 69 chassis with a 77-78 block and manifold and a 74-76 coupe head. carb turns out to be the 26/34 from the 1438 engine- so pretty sure that is not going to work so well... subject for a different area of the forum.
I also think the radiator must be from a later model- electric fan in front of it..
well. at least i don't feel bad not keeping it original.
