I have a new door chime relay. The old one was unplugged and not working. There are two wires. A black and white and an orange. I connected the black and white to negative and ornage to positive. Didnt work. Reversed them. Didn't work. I am lead to beleive that they run back to the ignition switch??? Is this correct? Any help appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: Door chime relay wiring
Besides the main batch of wires that go the the big white connector off the back of your ignition switch, you should have two separate white wires that go to a connector. The wires coming off the back of this connector will be a red with black (power) and a white with orange (to door chime).
Unless a PO has replaced the original ignition switch, in which case a lot of aftermarket switches don't have the door chime wires on them.

Ron Thanks for the info. I found the wires (orange red/black). They are on a white plug. Where does this go plugged into??? I can't figure it out!
Thanks

Re: Door chime relay wiring
The original ign. switch had two white wires coming off the back that had the other end of the connector to go to your red/black, and white/orange for the door chime. These white wires are missing on a lot of aftermarket switches that are being sold. I'm not sure who may have the switch that includes these wires, if anybody does it would be Parts Point.
The picture (click it to enlarge) shows these wires and the connector. It would be hard to add them to a switch that didn't have them because they don't connect to any exposed terminals on the back of the switch, they go into the housing and connect inside. When the key is inserted it closes a circuit that sends power to the door chime through these wires. The ground circuit runs through the push buttons on the door jamb.

Re: Door chime relay wiring
The logic of POs is oft times one of the mysteries of life. According to what I hear, doing away with the (annoying) door chime is a pretty common thing. A suggestion was made (could have been by Mark Allison, I'm not sure) that that circuit be used for the radio. That way the radio would work whenever the key was in and it wouldn't have to be turned on. In fact, I have my door chime disabled and plan to do this mod.
I replaced my ignition switch and kept the old wires that have both connectors on them. If you want to splice into the wires (there are two white ones) you're welcome to the two wire connector, no charge, as I'm sure for such a light item postage is peanuts.

Thank you 73Spider. Actually it's a case of "pass it on down". I have been the beneficiary of advice and parts from other members (mdrburchette in particular, who had to be forced to accept payment on one of her offers) and it's my pleasure to be able to help others when I can.
