melted pink ignition wire.
melted pink ignition wire.
Got car back together. Been 15 years. Won't start. Had be running. Ran a jumper from batter to coil. Started up. Exam finds a melted pink wire someone had splice where it goes through firewall by coil . Peal back and find pink wire fused with brown wire and others in harness stuck together. No power on pink wire to coil, but power at fuse box at pink terminal. I don't know where C25 is. I suspect it is behind the consol and I don't want to pull that back out anymore. Thinking I'll run a jumper from fuse panel to coil. Suggestions welcome. I have a wiring diagram it shows pink wire goes to fuse box and also splits and goes directly to coil from C25. The coil is the one melted. Tying to locate C25, but fear it is behind consol which I don't want to remove one more time. Any solutions to this issue would be most apprecitated. Joe

Solution is to find and repair damage. Running jumper wire will usually come back to haunt you. Fix It Again Tony!!

Re: melted pink ignition wire.
Joe,
Correct me if i got the wrong wire. I'm dictating by memory, i didnt consult a wiring diagram yet. The pink wire at the coil leads to the ignition switch. It also branches off and goes to the fuse box but also lights up your red dash lights when you switch the key on. To my memory it's called pink wire #15. If this is the wire then just lead a new wire from the ignition switch through the firewall and to the terminal on the coil and you're set to go. Want to play it safe, then install a fusible in this line and it wont melt again if there's trouble. If you run a jumper from the fuse box to the coil then you will not be able to turn your motor off by key.

This sounds like a good plan, Ari. Thanks. Just for ducks in the diagram it shows pink from switch to Multi connector C31. Then splits and one branch from there over to coil. To your recollection is C31 back in behind the consol? Thanks again, Joe

Re: melted pink ignition wire.
Your soldered wires at the ignition switch lead to the multiconnector which plugs your switch to the car's wiring, way before it reaches the upper console. From there the pink wire branches off in 2 directions, one way to the fuse box and dash lights, another way straight to the coil. Of course, if your wire melted inside the multiconnector, then some surgery will be needed.
Re: melted pink ignition wire.
thanks, Ari. Think I'll stick with your first suggestion. Want to get it running so I can move it and put it on a trailer. I'm running out of time for this year until october. Too bad there isn't a catalogue with drawings and locations of all the multipile connectors with their numbers. Maybe there is but I haven't seen one. Thanks again. Joe

Re: melted pink ignition wire.
Splice your new pink wire at or after the multiconnector otherwise you'll lose your dash warning lights and label it for future clarity. I should add that you solder it to the existing wire in order to avoid fix it again tony remarks,
Re: melted pink ignition wire.
Not sure why you are so into finding the connector. Why do you need to know where it is?? You know what the problem is,,, you have wires melted together. You need to seperate at least and replace at best all those damaged wires, all the way thru the loom if needed, and if possible fingure out what caused the melting in the first place.
Running a jumper wire is really Mickey Mouse, and is sure to come back and bite you. Might at well fix it correctly the first time.

Re: melted pink ignition wire.
It is fixed and car is running. Soldered a fuse in line. I know what caused the meltdown, magicwrench. Whoever put the Air Con. in scruffed up the pink wire and over time it shorted. They had tried to repair it with duct tape and silicon. Now that is Mickey Mouse. Appreciate heads up Ari, But I already put the splice in before the C25 connection. It was the only place with room for the splice, and still readily available for access if ever needed. Every thing seems to work fine--gauges, tack, idiot lights etc. Thanks, Joe
