Milan intro

Post by Milan »

Hello to everyone, I am new member from Calgary, AB, Canada. Cars are my hobby since my childhood. Italian cars with its styling and great engines are my favorites. I am 64 and, as a family man, I use to own Fiat 132 with 2.0 l engine, to my opinion one of the world best engines ever. I do not have 124, but want to be member of this group in order to exchange experience you have and hope I will have a chance to purchase decent vehicle from one of you. Now it is a time for me to get 124 Spider that I can love, cherish and enjoy for ever.

Welcome to the best site for Fiat Spiders in the world! There's quite a few members here who have intimate knowledge of the Lampredi-designed engines that power the Spiders we all love an cherish on this site. You may also want to visit Guy Croft's site (http://www.guy-croft.com/) to get some additional ideas of what you can do with/to these engines.

Welcome aboard!

Hi Milan.
This site is great for pretty much everything Fiat spider and a few other vehicles as well.
When buying a spider , what direction are you looking for...a cheaper one but needs attention and could ( read usually) cost more than one nicely sorted and pretty reliable. Or one that will cost a bit more but has been looked after and might need just a few things changed to give you a piece of mind... If the second, there was one for sale near Kaslo last fall, not sure if it sold. Some on Van C list.
Good luck in the quest...

Thanks Narfire. I think one that will cost a bit more but has been looked after is something that I am looking for.

why don't you import a 132 to Canada? i'm pretty shure that would be the only one around. as far as i know there's one in NY and that's about it for north america.
there are good ones still around, in south america and in europe.
it can be done, but in order to avoid it being subjected to emmisions crap, it would need to ne pre 1977

I sold mine more than 17 years ago, before move to Canada. I did some search around, but it is really hard to find good one. Almost all of them were scraped due to rust.

It looks great Djape. I can see that you bought it in Croatia. License plate is from Split. My ant still lives there. Did you bring it in Canada?

Djape, You are 100% right. Even if I get it with rubber bumpers, my plan was to convert it back to original. Now, I am going to the site you recommended. Thanks.

two diferent cars on these photos. one with italian plates is mine, yellow velour interior, bought in serbia, aleksinac, and now at my place in belgrade. italian plates are there just for filming a movie, i rented the car to film crew last year.

other car is with blue velour interior, in Split, bought in croatia in good condition and restored to perfection and couple years later sold. now it's in ireland.

a good 132 popped up in local serbian ads two days ago but it's already gone. 1000euro, last driven in 1990, been sitting in a garge since then. decent restorable car, no welding required, just needed to go tru a re-comminsioning process, as all cars that haven't been driven in 20+ years do.
needs a set of new side rubber trim pieces, some work on interior, new brake, fuel, water hoses, changing all the fluids, new gaskets and o-rings for engine, gearbox and diff, new shocks, tyres, silent block or two and viola! a good daily driver that will turn heads wherever it appears, probably even more in canada than in balkans.

about spider - plenty are available in north america, but be sure to find a good rust free body. everything else is easy to solve. in order to avoid getting into major resto project, bring a specialist with you when you go to wiev a car. pay for his time, it's cheaper that way. otherwise you'll need to go trough what my customer did http://www.oldtajmeri.rs/phpbb3/viewtop ... =91&t=4437
in the beggining of the topic there are pics of what was bought for 4.5k euro, and couple pages later what was underneath shiny paintjob

@Djape,
Nice collection. Congratulation. Thanks for honest advice regarding car check prior purchasing. I am pretty sure I can check car properly when I get to that point. I use to engineer, design and built a cars years ago. Even now, I do engineering of trailers and carriers, so any technical aspect should not be a problem to deal with.
