IGNITION PROBLEM?
IGNITION PROBLEM?
I parked my 81 Spider 15 years ago, now I am trying to get it running again. Replaced fuel injectors and it starts, but when you let go of the ignition switch it runs rough and then when you let up on the throttle , it dies. Can anyone help me figure this out? Do I need a new ignition switch? Help, please!

Re: IGNITION PROBLEM?
May not be an ignition issue? Are you saying when you disengage the starter letting the key turn back as designed it runs rough and stalls unless you give it gas. 15 years is a long time for fuel to sit in the tank, lines, pump, filter as you have already discovered with the injectors.
Fuel, Air and spark. It appears you have spark.

Re: IGNITION PROBLEM?
Any air leak after the Air Flow Sensor would be a problem.
Have you inspected
All the hoses and vacuum lines
The electrical connector on the coolant "T"
The wires for the pick-up coil inside the distributor

Re: IGNITION PROBLEM?
Sounds like an air/fuel ratio issue to me.
The Auxiliary Air Valve needs to close off after starting. If it doesn't, then the mixture would lean out.......
The Cold Start Valve shoots fuel when the car is cold. If it doesn't stop, the mixture would be too rich.
Use locking pliers to close off both the air line and the fuel line. Try to start the car. It may run rough but should smooth out as the engine warms. This is a quick first step to isolate some components of the FI system.
There are more technical diagnostics. Do you have a multi-meter?
