Fuse Box Help

Thanks for all the help. I bought a Dremel and some attachments I am waiting on the bulbs, fuse box, and fuses. I have a question about some of the stuff I yanked out. Attached to the guage cluster was a wire that went to the battery and the other to the altenator. I noticed the wire running from the battery to the altenator seemed to be original equipment, my dumb question is: is there supose to be a wire that runs from the positive battery cable to the altenator?
